Ch. Quinalt L'Enclos St Emilion

France

From a vineyard planted in gravelly soil, proprietor Alain Raynaud#s best choice was to do what vineyards such as Cheval Blanc did ... pick early and preserve as much fruit in the wine as possible, knowing that this would not be a vintage to achieve great size and density. From a closed, walled vineyard within the city limits of Libourne, with the oldest vines in St.-Emilion, this blend of 77% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, cropped at only 27 hectoliters per hectare, exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with 90-point aromatics (blueberries, raspberries, cherries, minerals, and earth). It reveals more austerity than previous vintages, and does not possess the texture or depth of Quinault#s great successes, 2001. QUIL03 QUIL03
